Abstracts New! See all Abstracts from IAVE Barcelona Miniplenaries

The conference approaches a different thematic axis every day. The main themes are treated from a global perspective in the plenary sessions and from a more specific point of view –mini-plenary sessions. Workshops help to put into practice the themes that have been worked on. And last, the actions mean a direct implication of the majority of the participants in an act that can remain untouched by time. The thematic axes of the conference are:

Day 18th: Cultural diversity and equal opportunities
Day 19th: Conditions for peace
Day 20th: Social and environmental sustainability

VIP'S
Volunteering = Interest for People

A name with many possible readings for this 18th IAVE World Volunteer Conference. The aim is to make visible the reasons why people giving away their time are the real world VIP's (Very Important Persons). Without them, any single team, any single action improving the world wouldn't be possible. From Barcelona, and within the global reflection framework of the Dialogues in FORUM 2004, the Conference wants to recognize the daily task done by anonimous people, who feel that doing something for others make them better people and improve their way of living, improving at the same time the world they are living in.

Actions:

The main objective of this conference, beyond the acquisition of knowledge and
experience, is to show a direct and tangible involvement in the promotion of changes that will improve our society.

For that end, three actions will be developed:

  • A book –Dilemmas– will hold the answers to the dilemmas raised around the volunteer field.
  • Twin Projects. The creation of a joined Project among institutions will be rewarded.
  • BIOdiversity Different Mediterranean species will be sown in the Botanic Garden of Barcelona.
